The General Election Turnout Was Historic for Pearland; But Turning Out Voters for the Saturday June 10, 2017 Runoff Election Must Become a Total Community Effort Embraced by All Pearlanders Says Local Publisher

MESSAGE FROM AUBREY R. TAYLOR

According to the Brazoria County Clerk's Office there were 68,633 registered voters eligible to vote in the Saturday, May 6, 2017 General Election for Pearland, Texas. Of the 68,633 registered voters only 7,652 participated in this election – that’s only an 11.15% turnout. While this was a record turnout for the city of Pearland, Texas -- it's still unaccepteble. We can do better than this! Mayor Tom Reid, Quentin Wiltz, Woody Owens and Dalia Kasseb deserve better than this! IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW: Over 60,981 registered voters decided for one reason or another to stay at home. Why? We’re not sure. But this trend of non-participation in city-wide elections must change – and now!

TURNING OUT THE VOTE ON SATURDAY, JUNE 10, 2017 MUST BECOME A TEAM EFFORT

Voter apathy in local elections is a major problem. So it’s incumbent upon the electorate in Pearland to choose to participate in the process of electing the best, most qualified candidates who represent their own best interests on Saturday, June 10, 2017. But this must be done in a very positive and responsible way by engaging fellow Pearlanders and educating them on the importance of their participation during the early voting period which begins on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 and ends on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.

RUNOFF BALLOT SPEAKS WELL OF GROWING DIVERSITY AND OPEN MINDEDNESS OF THE ELECTORATE IN PEARLAND, TEXAS

In a lot of ways, the upcoming Saturday, June 10, 2017 runoff elections in Pearland will serve as a litmus test of sorts for America. Mayor Tom Reid, Quentin Wiltz, Woody Owens and Dalia Kasseb aren’t just candidates on a ballot. They actually represent the fabric of our nation in general and the changing diversity of Pearland in particular. So keep in mind that the largest Pearland racial/ethnic groups are White (45.9%) followed by Hispanic (21.5%) and Black (16.7%) according to US Census Bureau statistics. And also keep in mind that a candidate’s ethnicity should not be a major determining factor when trying to determine who deserves your vote. Neither should Pearlanders be persuaded by divisive political maneuvers, plots or strategies that have no place in American politics. These divisive, and in many cases hurtful tactics only serve as mechanisms that destroy the fabric of communities.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

On behalf of Aubrey R. Taylor Communications, the publisher of Houston Business Connections Magazine® I implore all Pearlanders to do your research and vote for candidates who value and respect your vote! As it stands right now Mayor Tom Reid is the only candidate whom I’ve met personally and can assure you values and respects the vote of every Pearlander. However, I do plan to try to reach out again to Quentin Wiltz (Candidate for Mayor), Woody Owens (Candidate for Pearland City Council Position #7) and Dalia Kasseb (Candidate for Pearland City Council Position #7) to see if they have a willingness to ask for the vote of every Pearlander!
